Speaking Up=Shunted Out

Vir Sanghvi in today's Hindustan Times reminds us that environmentalist Bittu Sahgal had warned the State Government that the Mithi river, which borders the Bandra Kurla complex, would flood its banks during heavy rainfall if the Government went ahead with its plans. The Government responded by firing Sahgal from the committee. Read the rest here.

BTW the lady who does chores in our house told us that the construction workers who lived by the river bordering the mithi river and the airport broke the wall. They did so because the slums they lived in were inundated with water and there was no where for the rising water to go. The next logical thing was to break the wall to release the pressure.. Irnonically it might have put the Air-India flight at risk but I believe this saved a few hundred lives.
